Public Works Operations Lead
Village of Star Prairie – Full-Time | $28–$35/hr + Benefits

The Village of Star Prairie is seeking a skilled Public Works Operations Lead to oversee daily operations and maintenance of Village infrastructure, including water, sewer, streets, parks, vehicles, buildings, and equipment. This position serves as the Operator in Charge (OIC) for water and sewer operations and plays a key leadership role in ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality service delivery. Applicant must be a problem-solver who can interact with the public in a professional and positive manner.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise public works staff and projects.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of water and sewer systems.
  • Ensure compliance with DNR, EPA, and municipal standards.
  • Perform skilled labor, operate equipment, and support seasonal duties (snow removal, mowing, etc.).
  • Respond to emergencies and rotational on-call duties.
  • Collaborate with officials, residents, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer 5+ years’ experience in sewer/water systems, with at least 2 years in a lead role.
  • Ability to obtain DNR waterworks and wastewater certifications within 12–24 months. WI DNR include Distribution Grade 1, Groundwater Grade 1, and certifications in biological treatment, disinfection, and collection systems.
  • Strong mechanical skills, computer proficiency, and communication abilities.
  • Must be able to respond to Village emergencies within 30 minutes of notification.
